Heal well, feel better. I had a meniscus repair on my left knee 2 Decembers ago. I appreciate your candor on the knee replacement. BTW, my surgeon attended Duke undergrad circa early 1990s. He went to the basketball camp 2 years in a row. No idea where he went to Med school.

Though I live in Southold, I have never made it to Matchbook Distilling because they have Saturday only tasting room hours - and I avoid the "crowds" on weekends LOL (especially since the Girls episode) ha!

I wish you a speedy recovery. Thank you for such a delightful newsletter - I loved George and "the local color" in the video. Years ago, there was a blog by a gentleman who visited hot dog eateries and his rating system was in greasy napkins. It looks like the New York System hot dog would rank high in napkins!

My friend’s son is a chef at Fallow—he literally just texted me about it right before I dug into your newsletter 😊 I hope you heel fully and quickly with the least amount of pain possible.

When the pain is unbearable, send your guardian angel to Padre Pio and ask for help. It worked for me on my knee (arthritis 2002) and my lungs (anemia 2023, hemoglobin count of 2.2, cardiologist called it "incompatible with life") Also, worked a few times looking for a parking space.

As for Ratio, I just commented on your Tonight Show appearance before reading this one. Something about you being E. B. White to Will Strunk's Uwe Hestnar. I knew I shoulda read this one first.

Love the omelet clip~ I seem to remember a vid from Jacques Pepin about the "2 kinds of omelets" and showing the stirring kind (like the one shown by Doug Brixton here) and one where you don't stir at ALL, just fold when it's ready. Either way, I'm an omelet fanatic. And ironically, I haven't mastered either technique LOL

Hope your rehab goes smoothly and is much less painful!

Take those painkillers. Do that PT.

Like Ed said it could be worse. My wife has had three (3!) total knee replacements. One of the devices completely failed and had to be replaced. Pray that doesn’t happen to your joint.

Saugy dogs, while delicious, do not offer a reasonable recreation of NYS wieners. Wieners are smaller in diameter, have flat ends, and snap when you bite them. But I appreciate anytime RI food receives a positive shout, even if it is just for the wienies. Once you are mobile again (try adding collagen to your daily routine; it helps), you should try some of Providence's other fantastic restaurants.

I don't know if this will make you feel better or not. I have a friend who thought it would be great to have BOTH his knees done at the same time. He thought that he'd reduce his total down time. His immediate thought after waking up from the sedation was "Shit - what have I done!!!". So your single-knee replacement, while painful, probably pales in comparison. For example, you won't need two people to move you any time you get off the bed. The good news for him, and I expect you, is that he is now pain free and the operation was a success. (He did his PT above and beyond). While on your back I recommend the PBS series "Patience" which features an autistic detective (the lead is autistic in real life). Get well!

So cool to be recognized for your work and have an uptick in book sales! I have never understood people who hoard recipes like that. To what end? Sharing is so much better for everyone, though it’s always nice to be acknowledged. Get well soon!

PS: those weiners remind me of Yocco’s hot dogs from my hometown Allentown PA. Their slogan: the secret’s in the sauce😋

As a local, you probably know better than me, but don't eat too many before going on the rides at Dorney Park.

You were super on the Tonight Show! So sorry about the knee pain, worse than a new hip which was plenty painful. And yet, love where it took you, appreciating the connectivity of everything♥️

Speedy recovery Michael! I love all the recommendations… I’ll finish Sirens based on your recommendation. I only got 2 episodes in. Try Department Q with Matthew Goode. Fantastic!

Hi to Ann and thank you both for Dingle!

Sending healing thoughts your way! My best friend, who lives on the opposite side of the country, recently had a knee replacement. According to her, the pain does eventually go away. She is madly in love with her ice machine. Do you have one?

I borrowed a standard ice machine from Cousin Chippy, which is great. Don't have the "compression" ice machine, I don't think? It's a fabulous device. Knee always happy.
