Thanks for the nice mention Michael! I am a fan of your works as well! Love to have a drink and talk about my speech on Fusion from 1989, (Santa Fe). Best. N
I don't know enough about modern (meaning 20c) Irish literature to say this, but it seems to me that Small Things Like These makes a perfect modern bookend to Joyce's The Dead. The mismatched couples at the heart of each tale feature one-half of the couple longing for something (or someone) lost. The characters' ruminations on love, loss, and a constant longing to be known illuminate a kind of universal heartbreak. Keegan and Joyce's characters' frustration with the elusiveness of emotional and physical intimacy illuminates the truth that the pain of not knowing one another is embedded in the mystery of not fully knowing oneself.
Also bought my Nakano knife set thanks to the discount you offered a while back. They are nested beautifully on a magnetic acacia board with the uglier stuff in the back. I feel so chef-ish.
As usual thanks to you for all the info top to toe. I lived LES, NYC in the 80’s too. I remember the drill. All young people should live in DT Manhattan but it might be harder now. Priceless Newsletter. Thank you. Looking forward to Fly Girl. Dressing for travel was fun. Now it’s all Nikes and legging’s.:)
David Sedaris, in an appearance on Craig Ferguson's late night show, related that something he learned from a BBC quiz show is that one out of three Americans weighs as much as the other two. 😮 He's put out some remarkable pieces of food writing. If you can, attend one of his always-fun"lectures". https://www.davidsedaristour.net/
Michael. Loved the video on the woks. I have a carbon steel wok that is a good 30 years old. Barely have to wash it and even on my regular GE stove, it cooks up stir fries that are excellent. I am still cooking poached eggs and sharing that video as it is a true game changer. Happy Satureday to you and Ann.
Loved this issue, and I'm really looking forward to reading Ann's new book.
Unrelated to this, did you ever get any answers regarding romantic restaurants in Athens, I think you mentioned on twitter recently? Vlassis was one of the most remarkable meals we had there- highly recommended. (Plus I make their gigantes plaki at least once a month)

Thx! Will look into Vlassis!
Great issue Michael! For Sedaris and Plimpton essays alone. 👏👏 Looking forward to reading Ann’s new book.
