What fun it’s been to search “food 2024” on my photos app and reminisce about the year in great food and great food memories. The following are some of my top meals of the year. Such as Angie Mar’s “lobster blanquette,” above, at her West Village restaurant Le B.
The oyster Po’ Boys at Acme Oysters in New Orleans are the best I’ve had. But if they’re full up, head to the less-touristy Johnny’s Po’ Boys four blocks away—their Po’ Boys are excellent as well.
Arguably the best onion rings in New York City are at Cecchi’s on West 13th Street. When Ann’s done teaching at The New School we often meet here for a martini at the bar and a plateful of them (or two).
For Ann’s birthday lunch, I took her to Rubirosa on Mulberry Street for chicken parm, pasta with sausage and broccoli rabe, and a black trumpet mushroom pizza.
